Founded on August 20th 1920, when participating in a colonial competition in Osorno. In 1952, the club was accepted into the second division Chilean league, which they won, achieving promotion to the first division. In 1955, the club won its first national championship, under the control of the Argentine Guillermo Coll. In those years the club was known by the nickname of the Millionaires, due to its ability to acquire top footballers.

In 1978 Palestino won their second league title, this time led by Elías Figueroa. In this championship, the club established a record of unbeaten games in the championship and, in addition, won the Chilean Cup, which meant obtaining the double.
